Lyrebird's parents were members of an old flight, one that their kits never learned about and that probably didn't matter in the long run. Lyrebird and her sister Jackdaw were left on their own after their parents untimely deaths, spending much of their time hunting for food and thinking about their eventual escape from this era of their lives.

Lyrebird was slightly older than Jackdaw, and therefore took on the role of leadership. In those days she was somebody her sister could look up to- a wolf who would do whatever it took to keep them both safe.

Yet Lyrebird always yearned for a greater purpose. That greater purpose would come once the Falconer flight found and picked up the two.

Lyrebird had never experienced somebody like the Falconer leader before. He offered them a worthwhile purpose to their lives and a cause to fight for. The violence didn't matter to Lyrebird- the important thing was the achievement of a meaning to her life. If he said the bloodshed was righteous, then it had to be, and she would follow his word.

Lyrebird's willingness to follow the Flightmaster's ideals even when not given a direct order made him like her quite a bit. He would give her kind words and approve of her decisions- and that didn't help Lyrebird at all with her growing fanaticism. Her devotion to this wolf went as far as to be the cause of her missing foreleg- everybody else told her not to risk it, but he told her to go ahead, and so she did.

Lyrebird's sister eventually decided that there was no good reason for the senseless violence the recent Flightmaster was having them commit. Her first- and only- act of rebellion was noticed by Lyrebird, who mauled her and left her for dead.

Yet Lyrebird's devtion was to the individual leader, not the cause- as soon as he died Lyrebird couldn't follow Falconer on their new missions. Sure, his actions were revealed to be for no good cause and was only to further his personal interests. Sure, he was a terrible person. Lyrebird couldn't handle any of it. Leaving meant abandoning what he had fought as the leader of. Yet the others would not continue his savage work. Thinking about it all, about her actions and madness given to a person who used her as an attack dog... that would drive her down a path she didn't want to go.

Lyrebird appears for important meetings. She yells about the need for violence and the beliefs of a dead man. She claims that he speaks to her. Yet nobody is there, and Lyrebird follows orders from her own mind's rendition of a dead man.
